ABOUT PROJECT
Dhaka WASA has inked a deal with Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) of South Korea to Tetuljhora- Bhakurta Well Field Construction Project at Savar to produce 15 crore litre water per day to supply Mirpur area of the capital.
The contract was signed between Managing Director of Dhaka WASA Engr Taqsem A Khan and Jung-Jae Huh, Senior Executive Vice President of Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) at a city hotel on Thursday.
The project cost will be estimated Tk521 crore and completed by June 2016. 70 per cent of the cost will be provided by Korean Government and the rest by Bangladesh Government and Dhaka WASA.
State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, was present as chief guest while Zuena Aziz, Additional Secretary, Local Government Division of the Ministry of LGRD & C and Vice Chairman of Dhaka WASA Board and Korean Charge d’Affairs Hyun-joo KIM were present as special guests.
The chief guest in his speech said that Tetuljhora- Bhakurta Well Field Construction Project is a significant event for Dhaka WASA. Capacity building of Dhaka WASA under the present government has been increased in the last 5 years, and, at present there is no shortage of drinking water in the capital. ‘ Dhaka WASA never sleep’ and function round the clock with cooperation of Development Partners and service of Dhaka WASA will further improve day by day, he hoped.
Managing Director of Dhaka WASA Engr. Taqsem A Khan informed that Dhaka WASA is moving forward to develop an environment-friendly and sustainable water management system. Dhaka WASA will be able to shift its paradigm by shifting its production from 28 per cent to 70 per cent from the surface water sources by 2019, he hoped. Engr. Khan also thanked the Development partners for their necessary cooperation.
It may be mentioned that Dhaka WASA is currently producing 242 crore litre water per day against the demand of 230 crore litres of the city dwellers. Dhaka WASA is currently producing 22 per cent of its total production from the surface water sources.
Special guests Zuena Aziz and S Korean Charge d’Affairs Hyun-joo KIM also spoke on the occasion.
