A commercial contract was signed between Dhaka WASA and M/S. CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. for constructing a 450 MLD capacity surface water treatment plant at Jashaldia point of Munshiganj. The water from river Padma will be drawn to be used as the raw water of the treatment plant. Engr. Taqsem A Khan, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA and Mr.Hu Wei, Vice president of M/S. CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. signed the contract on behalf of Dhaka WASA & M/S. CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. respectively. Mr. Abu Alam Mohammad Shahid Khan, Secretary of Local Government Division and His Excellency Mr. Li Jun, Ambassador of the people’s republic of China and Engr. Md. Rahmatullah, Chairman of Dhaka WASA Board as a honorable guests were present on the occasion. The ceremony was presided by Engr. Taqsem A Khan, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA and it was held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in the capital on 25 September. The plant would reduce to a large extent city people’s dependency on ground water, said Abu Alam Mohammad Shahid Khan, local government secretary, while delivering a speech at the signing ceremony at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital. The total estimated cost of the project is around Tk. 3336 Crore equivalent to 407 Million US Dollar. Out of which 290.8 Million US Dollar will be financed by the Chinese government as soft loan.
